Acoustic surveys will be undertaken in March for thee sites which will be the first to be modified under the PPP. Helen Goddard said, "It has been a strange time trying to guess what would happen with the PPP. As the London Underground is one of our major clients we were anxious not to lose their business and it seems that the Metronet camp will be business as usual. We are very pleased to be able to see our input continuing to be appreciated and look forward to hearing the difference in the next 18 months." Watch this space January 2003 - T5 AMS Acoustics expertise has been called upon to begin work at Heathrow, on the long awaited, and much needed, Terminal 5. Helen Goddard was involved two years ago in a high level brain storming exercise as the first proposals for the terminal were being consolidated. Since then the enormous structure have been unveiled and work has begun on all of the electrical services design work. AMS have been developing reverberation time calculations for this structure, which will be used within the speech intelligibility predictions. Tony Stacey is currently heading up this project for AMS and said, "The question that everyone is asking at the moment is will it be an intelligent loudspeaker system or a traditional 100V line? All I can say is that it is too early to rule anything out." December 2002 - Darren Morgan Joins AMS Darren Morgan has recently been appointed Voice Alarm Systems Consultant, with responsibility for overseeing and directing the voice alarm specification writing service and project consultancy AMS Acoustics are currently offering to its customer base. The paper described the technical, aesthetic and political issues encountered by AMS Acoustics in attempting to introduce intelligible speech into a Grade I listed building. Helen said " It was daunting taking to such a large audience from another continent but the paper roused great interest and there was one familiar face in the audience." The conference organised a trip to the sacred Mayan site at Cethcen Itzya, which comprises of many pyramid temples and a games court. Many interesting acoustic effects were demonstrated in an attempt to convince the delegates that, aside for sacrificing humans, the Mayans understood acoustics well. Helen said, "Being in the jungle on the top of an ancient pyramid was spectacular, and no, I didn't have a hat to dance on!"
